SCHENECTADY COMMITTEE OF CORRESPONDENCE

Proceedings, December 1775

At a meeting of the Committee, the 6th Decr 1775:

Present.

Rinier Minderse, Chairman,

James Wilson,Jecobus Teller,
Hugh Mitchell,Henry Glen,
John Rosebom,Abraham Oothout,
Cornelious Cuyler,Harmanas Wendle.

On motion made, Resolved, that Rinier Minderse & James Wilson is appointed to be a Sub-Committee from this board to attend at the general meeting of the Committee at Albany the 7th Inst., and present an account from this board to them for payment.

At a meeting of the Committee, 9th Decr 1775:

Present.

On motion made, Resolved, that the five new members that were elected the 7th Inst be sent for to know if they will serve.

Said members having been sent for and present, all agreed to serve, together with thos elected out of the Pressent Committee.

John Peek, Quartermaster, having given in his resignation and Commission to this board:

The board having taken said resignation into Consideration, Resolved, that the same is axcepted of, and an other be appointed in his place.

At a meeting of the Committee, 18th Decr 1775:

Present.

On motion made, Resolved, that Cornelious Cuyler Deliver the Donation money for the relief of the poor of Boston, now in hands, which is seventy three pounds. New York Currency, to Hugh Mitchell, which sum is to remain in his hands until ways and means be found to carry the same to Boston, The propriety of such ways and means to be Judged of by the present & succeeding Committee.

On Examination of the Donation accounts, and finding that the sum of £39. 16. 6. of said money is in the hands of Christopher Yates,

On motion made, Resolved, that Christopher Yates account for the same to the succeeding Committee.

On motion made, Resolved, that Hugh Mitchell is appointed to receive a payment of four pounds due to this board by Frederick Fisher & Committee of Caughnewago for Balls sould them, and pay the same to Margaret Van Antwerp, from whom the Ball was Received.

On motion made, Resolved, that Hugh Mitchell is appointed to receive the money due to this board from the Committee for the City and County of Albany, which is £7. 11. 0, for the purpose of paying the remainder of the debts due by this board, and to William White £3 for the services of his boy in attending on the Committee.

At a meeting of the Committee, 20th Decr 1775:

Present.

Abraham Oothout,Hugh Mitchell.

There being one pound five shillings, New Y. C., in the hands of Hugh Mitchell, which was received for Ball furnished Captain Van Dick for the use of his Company,

On motion made, Resolved, that Hugh Mitchell apply the above sum of one pound five shillings to the payment of the two following debts: to John Rosebom, for Ribbons bought for Captain Van Dick’s Recruits, 17s.; and to Isaac De Graf for warning the Inhabitants to Come to the Election which was held the 7th of Novr last.

Their being now twenty shillings in the hands of Harmanas Wendle, which sum remains due to three of the men enlisted by Captain Van Dick, viz to John Wenn 5s., to William Murrey 5s., to John Rose 10s:

On motion made, Resolved, that said sum of twenty shillings remain in the hands of Harmanas Wendle until the above persons call for it.

On motion made, Recolved, that the remainder of the ball now on hand, which is 5cwt. 3qr. 0lbs. remain in the hands of Harmanas Wendle untill further orders from sum succeeding Committee, and if any of said ball should be sould by any succeeding committee, the money arising from said sails to be paid to the aforenamed Margaret Van Antwerp.

At a meeting of the Committee, 29th Decr 1775:

Derick Van Ingen,Abraham Oothout,
Hugh Mitchell.

On motion made, Resolved, that Derick Van Ingen is appointed to be Chairman of this Committee, & Abraham Wemple deputy Chairman, ----- Hugh Mitchell Clerk, and Christopher Yates deputy Clark.

On motion made, Resolved, that James Wilson and Jecobus Teller is appointed to be a Sub-Committee from this board to attend at the general meeting of the Committee at Albany, the 4th Janry next.

This board having taken into consideration the Custom of the Inhabitants of this place, of firing guns on New Years day, and finding said Custom to be attended with an unnecessary waste of powder, which ought particularly to be prevented at this time; Resolved, that the Magistrates be applied to, to use their authority in putting a stop to said custom.

Messrs John & Cornelious Cuyler having been sent for, and present and Made acquainted with the foregoing Resolve, tould this board they would speek to the other Magistrates; and that they would, as far as in their power, comply with said Resolve.
